The 18th Powder Metallurgy Summer School was coordinated by Dr Christian Gierl-Mayer of TU Wien and also Dr Marco Actis-Grande of the Politecnico di Torino.
The content of the programme was delivered by a range of specialists from across both the industrial and academic spectrum, whose expertise reflects many aspects and topics currently being employed in today’s Powder Metallurgy industry. The EPMA strives to keep the course as relevant and up to date as possible with topics on ‘Additive Manufacturing’ ‘Furnace Technologies’ ‘Hard metals’ and ‘Electric and Magnetic’. Other topics included ‘HP’, ‘MIM’ and ‘PM Low alloyed steels’ to name but a few.
This year the Summer School expanded its numbers, due to its ever-growing popularity, allowing 60 students to attend. The audience included graduates and industry personnel new to the PM sector, all of which benefited from TU Wiens excellent facilities.
The course included group problems solving sessions and laboratory work where delegates were able to experience Thermo calc practice, as well as visit TU Wiens X-Ray & Surface analysis centre and a tour to local factory ‘Lithoz’.
The annual Summer School would not be complete without its Networking Dinner, this year held at TU the Sky with amazing views of the whole of Vienna. The evening was a great success with excellent food and drink, and the ever-popular Mini Eurovision Song Contest.
